Oriens by Van Cleef & Arpels

Heyya all!

So as promised in my previous blog post I am introducing you the Oriens by Van Cleef & Arpels today! If anyone did not know Van Cleef & Arpels is a French company founded in early 20th century specialising in precious stones and jewellery. It also makes watches and perfumes. The pieces are worth looking at and admiring. Needless to say the perfume bottles are a true creation of art. If you don't believe me just bear in mind that Grace Kelly and some other famous people have been wearing Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery on worthy occasions. I personally love the Alhambra collection and pretty much everything else on their website :). If curious please go ahead and check for yourselves HERE!

OK right - back to Oriens now. I had this period when I was trying to find everything possibly reminding me of Miss Dior Cherie. And voila, I found this beautiful bottle smelling almost (very much almost) like it. Yeeey!

This perfume pyramid consists of mandarine orange, blackcurrant and raspberry as top notes, it has jasmine at the heart and as base - patchouli, amber and sweet vanilla. Patchouli note is so strong alongside with the fruity and floral mix that it instantly reminds me of Cherie. Although the nose behind this fragrance calls it a Chypre Floral Oriental it reminds me more of a gourmand scent rather than a girly love potion as in Cherie. This one is definitely sweeter, but at the same time lighter and not imposing at all. Alas, it is lacking the Dior sophistication in a way. However I cannot claim I don't love this scent, let alone the bottle.

The designer of Oriens is Bernard Ellena and it was launched in 2010. “For the new fragrance of Van Cleef & Arpels' Maison, I wanted to work with noble and oriental inspired materials, especially Jasmine and Amber. To illustrate this oriental escape through Oriens, I was inspired by the luxurious garden of Majorelle and its legendary blue, giving it a salicylic side, which creates the impression of a warm and soft breeze. This sensation is strengthened by the water fruit accord, which is also reminiscent of the exoticism of this garden. Finally, the Chypre Patchouli bottom, Vanilla and Amber bring an oriental warmth and softness to Oriens' trail.” Also the bottle was designed to replicate the Arbre aux Songes Ring. The cover was inspired by the true beauty of tourmaline.

I love how this scent dances for me during the day, it wraps me in its sweetness of blackcurrant and raspberry juice reminding me how spicy (instead of a sugar bomb effect) these fruits can smell and the patchouli immediately calms the scream down. Amber and vanilla soften my overall experience and I like how the dry-down smells. The base notes linger there embracing me in a warm and quiet mood.

Indulge yourselves in your favourite scents that create a warm feeling for you on a cold November night and till the next post! xx
