GUERLAIN Mon Guerlain EDP

Hello everyone! Let's talk about lavender and vanilla mix today, shall we?
I got introduced to Mon Guerlain through a perfume sample in one of the glossy magazines. I immediately tore that page and kept it in my notebook. There was something nostalgic, something warm and kind about this scent, I immediately knew I wanted it. It was a month later that I put my hands on this 30 ml beaut! The perfume had not been released in my country yet and I had a connection who happily got it for me :D It almost sounds illegal and yet really exciting!

As you all probably know Angelina Jolie is the face of the perfume and the story behind how the perfume was created is really feminine and very elegant just like Angelina herself. The noses behind the perfume are Delphine Jelk and Thierry Wasser. The latter was born in Switzerland and trained as a botanist before getting to perfumery school at Givaudan. In 2008 Wasser was appointed in-house perfumer in Guerlain. The two perfumers have worked together on a number of projects and I cannot claim much about the previous ones, however Mon Guerlain is something that matches my taste and my personality, so they have won my heart this time for sure. Both quoted Jacques Guerlain  "We create perfume for a woman we admire".

They describe Mon Guerlain as a fresh oriental scent with the top notes of Carla lavender and bergamot, middle notes are jasmine Sambac, iris and rose, and the base notes are Tahitian vanilla, Australian sandalwood, coumarin, benzoin, licorice and patchouli. Wasser talks about lavender as a floral scent, which is not devoid of a certain masculinity, that's what gives the perfume clean, floral and aromatic simplicity. For me the whole composition creates a warm aromatic yet gentle but sometimes sharp aura. On my skin even lavender gets much sweeter due to vanilla, benzoin and patchouli. Benzoin creates this artificial sense of warmth, and I am pretty sure I have spoken about the effect it has on me in my previous posts, while vanilla is a typical natural warm ingredient in many perfumes. Nonetheless, the top floral and fresh lavender accompanies the other notes for a long time. The dry down is really calming vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood.

Although I had also read lots of criticisms on the perfume some of them being that the House of Guerlain is losing it and going through the marketing catches and creating less unique scents I quite honestly admire this perfume. If I had to compare it with other creations of the House like Shalimar, Insolence, Le Petit Robe Noir and others, which are way too harsh on my nose causing nausea and headaches, this one is really soothing and surrounding me with a warm veil of femininity. A friend of mine would always comment that I smell so me without knowing I was wearing Mon Guerlain. So I take it as the best compliment and enjoy wearing it a lot!

Tastes always differ, but when a scent works well with the skin chemistry it's a great joy since the olfactory senses are an inseparable part of our lives! I hope most of those who are reading this really like the perfume :) Give it a try, see how it works!

Thank you and till next time! xx
